More News on the Conservatory

The Bloedel Conservatory and efforts to save it are still making headlines.  In a recent Globe and Mail article by Frances Bula here, she reports that sources close to city hall reveal the Mayor’s office is working on a plan to save the Conservatory.  While I welcome his Worship’s involvement, it’s interesting to note that none of Vision’s park commissioners have taken up the fight.

Stuart Mackinnon, my colleague on the board has posted some very interesting information on his blog here that shows that there are many other civic facilities that receive a subsidy from the city so one has to wonder why the Conservatory is being singled out.

I talked with John Coupar today who is leading the Friends of the Bloedel group and he reports that ticket sales for “Rumble in the Jungle”, a fundraiser to save the Conservatory on Januray 30 are going very well.  If you haven’t purchased and want to do so, here’s how you can buy them; tickets are $125 each or two for $200.  You can call or go in person to the following locations:

Southlands Nursery 604.261.6411

Bacci’s 604.733.4933

Hobbs 604.261.5998

I hope to see you there!
